TAPPETS.

Dirt under the valves, supply getting choked.
The noise is not coming from the bottom tappets and if wear of these parts were taking place, we should have excess clear-ance. This is not so, if anything the reverse.
We should like a new Tecalemit filter for the tappets. We have had a go at cleaning ours, but it is unsatisfactory with these kind of filters.

With our attention to the timing, contacts, and plugs, cold air to Carburettors, the Car is running like a bird.(as the phrase goes.).

We can go straight up to 85 without hesitation, and I should say easily beat your 85.1 MPH. The Engine is really running fine, and generally, although against the grain, we have every hope of being a fine Car.

CLUTCH.

Our Specification gives as the Clutch lining G 82602. It does not state make.
We have not changed the linings, they are still the same as when we left Derby. A new set was brought out (Ferodo's) by Fisher, but I would not let him fit them as I was on with my scheme of checking the oil escape from the rear bearing.
Since this has been such a success, the Clutch has dried out and no sign of slipping is taking place. The engagement is good, one can get a slight grabbing effect if you are out for it.

You have not passed any remarks re the scheme we have fitted, but it is a 100% job which has never been attained before, and is a practical job without umpteen hours being spent on in the design office.

I thank you for the enclosed, and A.B.R. would appreciate one.
