JANUARY 1937. 36,209 MILES.

A bad knock in the engine developed last week and the Owner drove the car slowly to Derby. No. 2 piston was found to be badly seized.

The engine has been dismantled and all parts have been carefully examined in order to try to find some cause for this trouble. Nothing was obviously wrong but the main bearings were not in very good condition. We propose to carry out the following work:-

Fit a new set of white metal main bearings. The intermediate bearings will be grooved 2.300" diameter x .100" wide.
Drill extra oil hole in each journal of the crankshaft.
Change cylinder block and fit six new pistons.
Fit latest type drilled up connecting rods with extra cylinder lubrication holes and Hall's metal bearings with RR.56 liners.
Fit large capacity oil pump, if available. Can you supply one as they are not yet on Production.

A sample of the engine oil is being sent to Hl. for examination.

With regard to the main bearing shims, we propose to fit RR.56. Is this agreed in conjunction with white metal bearings?

Will you please let us know whether you have any further suggestions to make or whether you would like to examine any parts fo the engine.
