Dear Sir, Commander Robertson has told me that you have run 140,000 miles on your 20 h.p. Rolls Royce and that you are wondering whether you should have a bottom overhaul. Normally, we recommend that when a car has run over 90,000 miles it should have a heavy engine overhaul. This however, costs about £90 to £100. Since your car is running satisfactorily, the oil consumption is not excessive, etc., etc., we would be tempted to leave well alone. However, the danger is that if a car is driven hard for long periods, after this mileage there might be a possibility of bearing failure.
