RE. 20 HP. SHOCK ABSORBERS. X4329 X4426 We have carried out tests and find that we can improve the 20 HP. cars when running under average conditions if we set the rear shock absorbers as single-stage 50 lbs. instead of having 2 stages - 25 and 50 lbs. as at present. It will be realised, however, that shock absorber settings are a compromise. We cannot hope to cover all conditions and to satisfy all customers with one standard setting. We make use of shock absorbers not only for damping the road spring oscillations, but also to reduce rolling of the body and also to improve the braking - to get the desired effect as regards rolling and braking, it is necessary for the friction to start at once. We have now fitted several hundred sets of Hartford Shock Absorbers to the 40/50 HP. and considering the average troubles we expect from shock absorbers, we think the 'Hartford' are giving very good service - we have records of them up to 20,000 miles.
