TRANSMISSION : Four speed, selective, sliding gear type, mounted in unit with engine. Clutch drive shaft mounted on ball bearings. Mainshaft mounted on roller bearing front and ball bearing rear. Countershaft mounted on roller bearings. Reverse idler bearing bronze. Central gear change. Latch on gear change lever protects reverse gear. Large S.A.E. power take-off opening on right side. PROPELLOR SHAFTS : Spicer, Tubular. All metal universal joints, fitted with roller bearings. Single shaft on 11' 3" wheelbase. Longer wheelbases have two shafts with self-aligning centre bearing and rubber mounted housing. FRAME : Pressed steel channel type of tapering section, 8½" deep at point of greatest stress. 2⅞" flange, ³/₃₂" thick (¼" thick on 13' 11" wheelbase). All brackets and cross members hot rivetted. Width of frame : Front 2' 6½" ; Rear 2' 10". Frame height, loaded ; Front 2' 0¼" ; Rear 2' 3¼". SPRINGS : Semi-elliptic type front and rear of special alloy steel. Front 38" long, 2¼" wide. Rear, 50" long, 3" wide. Auxiliary Helpers fitted. SPRING SUSPENSION : Front springs, shackled at front eye and fixed at rear. Rear springs, fixed at front eye and sliding on frame brackets at rear, thus eliminating shackles and necessity of lubrication. All spring eyes float in rubber bushes, eliminating lubrication and excessive wear, contributing to easy riding by absorption of road shocks. Hotchkiss drive. FRONT AXLE : Timken. Drop forged, alloy steel, I beam section. Tapered roller wheel bearings. Tapered roller thrust spindle bearings. Ball and socket type tie rod. Track 5' 3". Road clearance 10". REAR AXLE : Timken. Full Floating, bevel gear type. Chrome nickel steel pinion gear, straddle mounted on two taper roller bearings, front and straight roller bearing, rear. Differential and wheels mounted on taper roller bearings. Standard ratio 6¼ to 1. Optional ratio 5⁵/₉ to 1". Track 5' 5¼". Road clearance 9½". WHEELS AND TYRES : Cast steel spoke wheels with demountable rims. Dunlop 34x7 tyres, single front and twin rear. BRAKES : Service, Lockheed, super four-wheel hydraulic, two-shoe internal expanding type. Fully weatherproof. Actuated by vacuum booster. Front 16" diameter, 2¼" wide ; Rear 16" diameter, 3½" wide. Operated by pedal. Equalised pressure to four brakes. Cast alloy iron brake drums. Handbrake operating on all four wheels, and transmission for parking. STEERING GEAR : Worm and sector type. Worm mounted on roller bearings. Steering wheel 17" diameter. CONTROLS : Clutch and brake pedals, accelerator pedal and starter button on floor board. Gear and handbrake levers at centre. Horn button on steering wheel. Light switch, locking ignition switch, throttle and choke controls, on instrument panel. Foot switch for deflected headlight beam. LIGHTING : Electric. Tilt-ray headlights, chrome plated rim, sidelamps on wings. Instrument panel indirectly lighted. Combination stop and tail light. CHASSIS LUBRICATION : Chassis fitted with connections for grease gun. STANDARD CHASSIS EQUIPMENT : All steel top ventilated cowl, floorboard and instrument panel. Bonnet with stainless steel mouldings. Front wings, valances and running boards. Spring steel front bumper. Ammeter, oil pressure gauge, speedometer, petrol gauge, and engine heat indicator on instrument panel. Electric horn. Heavy duty Exide 6-8 volt 17 plate battery with hard rubber case. Jack, tools, and spare rim complete with 34x7 tyre and tube, mounted in spare wheel carrier. Chrome plated large diameter hub caps. Rubber step mats. FINISH : Black frame and running gear. Balance of chassis Federal Red.
