PHANTOM III. BRAKES.

We send herewith N.Sch.5164 showing a rubber "off" stop on the servo and an "on" stop for the front brakes.

It is necessary to increase the radius of the pin in the servo disc for the reverse braking in order to make up for the loss of travel due to compression of the rubber. We have increased this radius from 1.5 to 1.750 which is sufficient to ensure that with the present stop positions the forward braking stop always comes into action before the reverse stop.

It is thought that the rubber stop will enable the air dashpot to be deleted, and accordingly no provision is made for this.

We understand that it is wished to fit these pieces to the car about to go on 10,000 mile test, and as it may not be practicable to fit a servo with increased pin radius to commence with, the existing servo pressure plate can be used with the slotted link that we show for the permanent scheme. Backward braking will go out of action before front braking in this case.

Att: N.Sch.5164.
