To Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} LHS.{Lord Herbert Scott} from R.{Sir Henry Royce} BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} c. to Mr. Brewster. c. to Col. Hawkins. X6830 R2/M15.4.27. MR. BREWSTER'S VISIT - RE. RIDING QUALITIES OF CARS GENERALLY. X8410 X4565 I was extremely sorry Mr. Brewster had such a poor specimen of a RR. car. Why? Not because it was a Silver Ghost, but the french body had so many rattles on the rough French roads etc. If anyone was offered this as a RR. they would say "I don't want it". What should be done - scrap the whole thing for any order-getting purpose, or if used by the Co. it will be taken as a specimen. If you cannot do this, get the body made right, and fit the car with low pressure tyres, the same as on 7-EX - i.e. 7¼" well-base Dunlops. My impression is that no car belonging to the RR. Co., and likely to be taken as representing what they think is good, should have ordinary high pressure, tyres, or a noisy or heavy body. Something must be done. R.{Sir Henry Royce} | ||
