Individual Hand Control for Dampers. - Bentley.

We send herewith N. Sch.3941 which shows a device to enable some variation of damping to be made by the movement of a lever on the damper itself.

As shown there are three positions of the control lever and the movement over the whole range alters the compression of the valve spring by .045" which we estimate will give about 150 lbs. variation at the end of a 9" lever with a valve spring of the same rating as now, i.e. 275 lbs. per inch.

The front dampers having levers 8.750" in length will have a slightly greater variation.

We have diminished the clearance between the damper and the front axle control bracket, but according to arrangement drawing /B.321 there appears to be sufficient clearance remaining, as shown on our drawing.

It is suggested that the eccentric and spindle and the plunger should be chromium plated to give a surface hardness that will be a sufficient substitute for casehardening and also to prevent rusting of the upper end of the spindle.
