To R.{Sir Henry Royce} from EPC. c. to CJ. c. to E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} c. to En. EPC3/T27.8.19. X 295 RE SMITH ( T & M) TYPE 'A' DYNAMO. In answer to your note R2/G19.8.19, we will experiment, when time permits, on the comparison of the heating of the dynamos, on the lines you suggest. (At the moment, we are rather snowed under with production testing of electrical apparatus until the proper department gets in full swing). Both the Smith and Lucas dynamos get quite hot after running for a long period, but we have not made any measurements of the actual temperature - we do not think there is much between them in this respect. The workmanship of the Smith dynamo as received, is not quite as good as that of the Lucas, but Messrs. Smith have in hand for us another machine in which the workmanship will be up to the standard we require, and I shall be paying them a visit sometime soon in order to see this new dynamo running at their works in London. It was also surprising to us to find that the carcase was made of cast iron in both cases. EPC. | ||
