English Steel Corporation Ltd., Vickers Works, SHEFFIELD. Dear Mr. Burton, re GUN BARRELS. Confirming our discussion on Monday last, and subsequent telephone conversations, it is suggested that you put in hand immediately, 30 barrels to the attached prints, and to the following material specification. 1. MATERIAL. The material will be your Vibrac steel of the following approximate composition:- Carbon 0.28 to 0.32% Silicon Max. 0.30% Manganese 0.6 to 0.7% Sulphur ) Max. 0.04% Phosphor ) Nickel 2.6 to 2.7% Chromium 0.6 to 0.7% Molybdenum 0.6 to 0.65% The steel will be produced by open hearth melting. 2. PHYSICAL TESTS. The tests will be required in the transverse direction, and to give the following physical properties:- | ||
