Dear Sir, I am obliged for your letter of the 6th inst and have pleasure in informing you that I called at your Lillie Hall Depot to inspect chassis of the small and large type of Rolls-Royce. I was able to ascertain that the extraction device, a sample of which I am having made by our pattern makers in aluminium, will fit your size of bonnet, also that there is no obstruction on the dash likely to interfere with the regulation of this device. I hope to have a pair ready either before the end of this week or early next week. While at your depot I took occasion to inspect the oil sump on both models, but I am afraid that I cannot add usefully to cooling while this sump is exposed. If at any time you are prepared to carry out experiments with the sumps covered by a tray, I shall be able to suggest a simple arrangement with a view to increase cooling. Re Fan. I inspected both fan sizes and cannot but state that their design is inadequate, and not in keeping with the rest of the car. If you could arrange to let me have one complete fan of each type, I could have another pair made up on an improved design and sent to you for testing purposes. If I may use the hubs of the two specimens you send, I could return a new pair ready for slipping on to the fan spindle without further ado, and thus enable you to obtain exact data for comparison. The cost of these specimen fans I would allow for against any Royalty or purchase arrangement arrived at later on. | ||
