We send herewith N.sch. 1354 showing the arrangement of head lights pivoted about their centre of gravity so as to be capable of being dipped. This has come about through Mr. Royce's consideration of the whole question of controlling the head lights, in which he has come to the conclusion that dimming is out of the question, and that the only practical way of dealing with the question is to dip. As far as we know we do not infringe anybody's patents, in fact it seems very doubtful whether anybody has any patents of any importance.

What we should like to do is to approach Messrs Lucas or another firm of lamp makers, and ask them if they would be prepared to supply a set of lamps with our fittings. The lamp shewn on the drawing is type R250 (Lucas), for use with the standard fork bracket.

What we suggest is that Messrs Lucas should remove the fork bracket and replace it by our special trunnion pieces, thus making use of their standard shell and reflector. Also we do not want the wire coming out at the bottom as shewn on the illustration of the lamp.

We have endeavoured as far as possible to use the existing wing stays, and have put the lamp supporting bracket in the same place as now. This has involved making a rather unusual bent ball end. The proposal is that it should be bent after turning, and we should like you to try this, and to tell us if you find it impracticable.

It is of course understood that we shall supply all these fittings to the order of the coachbuilders, or customers.
