1021 To Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} from Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/EAG. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/EAG.9/ET.17.3.41. SLIDING ROOFS. ---------------- 9.B is now fitted with the draught excluding device mentioned in our report Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/EAG.9/ET.22.1.41. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Wym.{G. Harold Whyman - Experimental Manager} reports that he considers it to be satisfactory from the point of view of draught and wind noise. The modifications made to the original are as follows:- 1 - Rubber draught strips removed from edge of sliding panel. 2 - Felt slides removed and cleaned (the new type of tallow impregnated feltwill be fitted when they are available). 3 - Felt strips fixed to sliding panel filling the gap between panel and headlining. 4 - A wood frame made replacing polished fillets round the sliding roof opening. 5 - The wood frame hinged to the body at the front of the opening. 6 - Steel plates have been attached to the rear end of the sliding panel, which engage corresponding plates attached to the hinged wood frame when in the closed position. The plates are so formed that the wood frame is lifted close to the headlining which, in turn, is pressed against the felt strips between the headlining and metal panel. We propose having the sliding roofs on the bodies which Park Ward are making for Myth constructed on similar lines, but with the following modifications:- 1 - The steel sliding panel will be tapered and a sealing strip fixed to the edges so that, when closed, there will be no gap between the body and the sliding panel on the outside. 2 - The hinged wood frame will be replaced by a light steel f which will be covered in either headlining or leather t match the seating. Will you please let us have your comments after yo tried 9.B. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/EAG. | ||
