-9- (12) The design scheme (N.Sch.4798) was much simpler and more efficient. The direction of rotation of the toggle shaft was reversed by placing it behind the axle as in sketch. It was a great disappointment when this scheme juddered readily when built, both forwards and backwards, as its resemblance to experiment (10) is very close. [Text on blueprint] FRONT OF CAR (12) LINE OF BRAKE CABLE (13) While we had been waiting for schemes 11 & 12 to be made, we had made two more experiments. The first of these, N.102 scheme, consisted of a balancer lever, driven off the actuating lever, to which weights could be affixed. For convenience the adjustment mechanism was removed. This scheme did not judder in either direction. (P.T.O. for sketch (13) ). | ||
