BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} FROM E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} C. to S.C. WOR.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} 'CHINA' MODIFIED CRANKSHAFT. X5010. We send herewith LeC. 2952. shewing a modification to LeC. 2937., increasing the width of the crankshaft webs from 3.25 to 3.450 to conform with the stiffer web we are asking for on those cranks which will be made from existing forgings. You will notice that the face for the balance weight has had to be reduced in width to accommodate this modification. We would also point out that the oilway drilling has been rendered co-axial with the web to avoid the oblique drilling through the crankshaft journals, and that we ask for the drilling to be carried out on all webs.
