FROM R.{Sir Henry Royce} Copy to Mr. RG.{Mr Rowledge} Mr. Claremont. ORIGINAL E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} A.{Mr Adams} C. COMBINED MAGNETO & BATTERY IGNITION AUTOMATIC ADVANCE. (RR. HYDRAULIC RELAY.) I have done some work on this and from my drawing I find the following, which I describe in the following sketches:- [Drawing Annotations] Left Side: A cross arm governor, perhaps distinctly larger than that for battery ignition, but otherwise the same. Sliding box that cannot turn. lubricating oil pressure. 2 1/4" dia. cyl. 4" long, fitted with double trunk piston having hat leathers as shewn. Oil pressure admitted between piston trying to get through sleeve of trunk which is perforated in the centre but covered by valve (central collar). See next sketch. Right Side: Connecting links to collar. Having a stroke of .9 to 1.1 Cross pin & slot. Driving worm. Inner sliding & revolving spindle. Very small dia. double thrust. 3/4" dia. 5 collars. Central valve (hollow) having .1 movement up & down in piston. Exhaust drain to crankchamber. (1) | ||
