THE A.C-SPHINX SPARKING PLUG Co. LTD. Rolls Royce Ltd. 12/8/31. CONTINUATION SHEET No. 2. tank - in other words, the petrol passes into the delivery pipe in a pre-heated condition. Whether this is the case with your chassis, and if so, whether the situation could be improved, is a matter which we naturally leave with you. We put forward the suggestion because we ran into a few cases of vapour lock trouble in India some time ago with cars running across the Sind Desert, and we are satisfied that the heat reflected from the road surface on to the tank was pre-heating the petrol and was responsible for this trouble, which, however, disappeared when we had the petrol piping mounted in the manner suggested above; in other words, warm petrol entering the cooler piping was cooled to a point where vapour lock no longer took place. We were under the impression that we had in our records a paper published a few years ago before one of the Engineering Societies on the matter of vapour lock, but up to the moment of writing we have been unable to locate it. If we are subsequently successful we will sent it on to you. In the meantime, if you decide to carry out the suggestions outlined above, we should be pleased to have your subsequent report. If you have in Derby the chassis on which your experiments are carried out, we should like our petrol pump engineer to see it, and upon hearing from you we would arrange for him to come over and visit you at your convenience. Assuring you of our service, We remain, Yours faithfully, THE AC SPHINX SPARKING PLUG CO. LTD. N.F. STOCKBRIDGE. MANAGING DIRECTOR. | ||
