HYDRAULIC SHOCK ABSORBERS CONTROLLED
FROM DRIVER'S SEAT.

With reference to Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}4/E9.6.31.

As you are aware you have already given us a sch. that will permit the shock absorber loading to be varied from the driving seat. This scheme was combined with a new type valve which has been in process of development. The valve now functioning correctly, we have proceeded to test the automatic control. As you will see from the attached diagrams this works quite well. There was one small difficulty, the pressure did not release from the sylphon chamber very satisfactorily with the drilled valve, but this was overcome as indicated.

We have no scheme for fitting the double piston vertical damper to the chassis, nor a scheme for providing the oil pressure necessary to enable the control to be operated from the driving seat. We can, however, fit this up experimentally for Sales to try the effect, unless you consider it advisable to wait for the horizontal damper which we understand is likely to supersede the double piston type.

In connection with the improved R.R. damper with the split piston, we find that nitroalloy gives very much better results on the wearing pads than that obtained by Delcos.
