X4190 RE. GUDGEON PIN KNOCKS.

Replying to your Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}6/LG5.4.21, we have not yet had any case of Gudgeon Pin Knocks developed on cars on to which the modified type of Gudgeon Pin in which the screw is used for expanding the pin. We have fitted them on several trials cars and customers cars which have come in with this complaint, and although we have no definite record of how long these engines have been run since this was done there have been no further complaints, although we have arranged for this point to be specially reported on.

The special case we are particularly watching is chassis 16 - EE, Mr. Bell-Scott's inspection car which we are testing ourselves about every 1000 miles of running, and this car since the fitting of the new Gudgeon Pins to overcome the very bad elusive knocks and also the re-stretching of the concentric pistons to cure piston knocks has now run 2000 miles and there is still no sign of piston knocks or elusive knocks.
