formed in the crankcase by condensation. If this water is not removed, it may freeze in cold climates, thereby interfering with the lubrication system.

The sulphur present in gasoline when burned forms a sulphur oxide some of which also finds its way into the lower crankcase. If no ventilator system is used, this oxide will dissolve in the water in the crankcase and form an acid which will corrode and etch the working parts of the engine. This may not ordinarily cause serious damage, however, all chance is eliminated by its removal.

5. The floating oil intake is not an oil filter. The screen is of new design but is of approximately the same mesh as the stationary screens formerly used and does not become silted up as quickly because it receives oil from a higher level. Because of the fact that oil is taken from a higher level, the cleanest oil is used and the need of having an oil filter is negligible. In other words, the new floating oil intake replaces the oil filter. As it is customary practice for drivers to maintain very nearly the recommended oil level, the floating oil intake is usually against the upper stop and the oil is taken from the upper portion of the oil supply. Therefore, clean oil is pumped through the system and more efficient lubrication is obtained than by attempting to filter the foreign material out of the oil. The foreign materials and impurities in the oil such as dirt particles, bits of carbon, water and sludge collect in the lower part of the oil supply and remain there until the oil is changed. If the oil level is allowed to become very low the oil inlet will float freely in the oil assuring a constant oil pressure.
