TO D.W.) FROM R.{Sir Henry Royce} & E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}) (At Le CanadelHenry Royce's French residence.) Copy to R.W. W.O.R. ORIGINAL REC'D & DESPATCHED FROM W.W. 11.4.27. EAC.9. & 10. - HYPOID GEARS. X2066 From the notes I see, I assume we are still going on with the axle modification for the above. But we cannot do with gears of bigger diameter. I thought that I reduced the amount of out of centre to a very small amount just sufficient to lower the frame - 1" instead of 2" or more that they suggested. i.e. 1" below the centre. This might give us the advantage we need, and not cause trouble with excessive scrub. At the moment I do not think it is worth while spending money on any other proportion of hypoid gear.
