To-PA.{Mr Paterson} from E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} Copy to Col. " " NOR. " " HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} " " RY " " P.G.H. ORIGINAL E1/G13/7/21. X4239 RE "GOSHAWK II" - SMALL BALL JOINT FOR CONTROLS. We send you herewith drawing Lec.1423 shewing revised schemes for the above. The ball joint made to Lec.1387 was not satisfactory owing to the locking screw not having enough power to lock the ball pad easily. A revised design is now provided on the attached drawing, namely, model (1) having - (a) Bolt and nut for clamping instead of set screw. The latter tends to bind itself up when tightening, owing to it shutting up the slot in the joint body. (b) Thinner ball joint body generally, having more flexibility than Lec.1387. (c) Corners of square removed where not required, providing more flexibility. (d) Finer thread on ball pad which should result in a better fit. An alternative design is provided in model (2) with two clamping screws and the ball joint body completely split. Samples of both models (1) and (2) should be made and sent to Mr. Royce as soon as possible. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} [STAMP: RECEIVED] [STAMP: F.C JUL 14 1921] | ||
