21-G-IV.

Carburetter.

No difficulty has been experienced starting up. On one of the hills very strong mixture was noticeable from the exhaust although no actual wet petrol ran out of the drain pipe. So far we have had no building up effects. The engine chunks readily, and stops if too low a speed before changing down. It pulls very steadily on hills 3 miles per hour in third gear but the whole car is set in a dither by the engine torque. It appears to be the reaction of the rubber mounting.

Pistons.

There is a piston squawk idling after a hard run.

Steering.

On the run so far there has been llittle reaction from the steering. It is light for starting etc. We have not found any tendency to over steer. It is selective and stable.

Springing.

The front is hard, with minimum control; either the damper with rubber mounting of the control rod is too effective, or the torsion rod is too effective.

The car is free from roll cornering.

Brakes.

The brakes are good and progressive.

Rear axle.

There is too much slack in the rear axle.

Electrical System.

The new type electric horn spring mounting has failed. One has broken. One leg is too close to the centre ring. Bosch Horns failed to oporate. We dismantled them on the road and found that the enamel had been left on the supporting bracket, and on the base of the horns when the earth connection
