Cont.d.

(e) For the Specific Gravity tests rectangular pieces about 1 1/4" long should be cut from the idle ends, of the broken Upton Lewis test pieces. These to be handed to Mr. Hall for Sp.{Mr Spinney}Gr.{George Ratcliffe} determination etc.

After determining the Sp.{Mr Spinney}Gr.{George Ratcliffe} will Mr. Hall please make analyses of these specimens, and give remarks on porosity etc.

The Brinell tests should be carried out on further idle ends of broken Upton Lewis test pieces, using a load of 250 kilograms.

The distinguishing marks to be applied to the specimens should be according to the column on page 1, headed "Designation".

When these tests are completed, we wish to give a comprehensive report on these alloys, including quantity obtainable and price. Mr. Mills and Mr. Kesterton should therefore arrange to supply this information. Also Mr. Kesterton should give a report on the comparative casting properties of these various alloys.

Will C.O. kindly instruct these tests at the earliest.
