As regards the relative heating of shunt wound and inherently battery controlled dynamos, though the shunt wound machine undoubtedly scores in output for a given heating when the machines are not working at their maximum output, probably there is not much to choose between the two cases when each is working at its maximum. It is likely that the shunt machine has a small advantage but there is not as much difference as might be anticipated when such difference would be of the greatest advantage in favour of the shunt machine. At the higher speeds at which the control is consider-able a shunt machine for the same output would undoubtedly have the advantage of smaller heating.
