-9- Conclusions (Cont'd.{John DeLooze - Company Secretary}) 4) Improved method for fixing relay contacts. 5) Pinion bush changed from Sinterred iron to bronze. 6) Strengthening band on rear end of armature windings. 7) Improved insulation between the relay and cover. Outstanding Faults. 1) Armature fouling pole shoes. This is always at the pinion end of the motor, and we feel that to entirely overcome this trouble, an intermediate bearing should be introduced. Lucas are looking into this question. 2) Clutch Slip. We have had several cases of excessive clutch slip. Lucas inform us that they are looking into this matter, and think they now know how to make them more reliable. 3) Commutator riser joints. We feel that the soldered joints in the commutator risers ought to be improved. The slots are too wide for the conductors. 4) Strengthening Band on Armature. A strengthening band for the armature coil and connections, at the commutator end, would prevent a major failure if the soldered joints failed. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/RC.{R.
