Rolls-Royce, Ltd., Derby.........Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Levallois Srl/Crn.26.I.35. Dear "Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}", I enclose a scraper ring (called "scavenger ring" in St.{Capt. P. R. Strong} Louis, I believe). It is a special type, as you will perceive. Probably you know all about it, but I have been given to understand that it is a very efficient ring. I find that our scraper rings, with their very tiny holes, soon get blocked up with carbon. As I believe that it has been proved that the bigger the gap the more efficient the ring is, owing to the oil rapidly finding its way down the cylinder walls again, instead of being pushed over the top, as it were, and blown out of the exhaust, I thought you would be interested in this ring. In any case, I should very much like to know your views. Sincerely yours, [Signature] [Handwritten note:] Saw ER Hall on her way to St louis for a few hours S C lr{Mr Ellor} | ||
