X4584 Hs {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} /Rm {William Robotham - Chief Engineer} 2/LG. 22nd. June 1923. Messrs. Elliott Bros., 1, Central Buildings, Westminster, London, S.W.1. Dear Sirs, We have returned to you under separate cover the original Accelerometer No.323 and are keeping No.358. We get distinctly better results with this latter instrument. Our difficulties however, were not so much due to any mechanical defect in the instrument as to the difficulty of taking accurate readings of - (a) high accelerations and large tractive resistances owing to the contraction of the scale with increasing readings - (b) small accelerations and tractive resistances; we can get such very accurate results with a stop watch that the higher values were what we were particularly after. We suppose, however, that we should still have the same difficulties with a Recording Instrument, and as our last tests show very fair results, we will continue to use our non-recording Accelerometer. Thanking you for giving us the opportunity of trying this second instrument. Yours faithfully, | ||
