X1588 To Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} KJP1/H31.8.23. Memorandum No.5355. Sir Emsley Carr. - Chassis No.3-PG. Will you kindly let me have your remarks on the following extract from the above Inspection Report :- "Redstone questioned me with regard to the use of Miracle Oil: he always uses this with his petrol, putting in one ounce of Miracle Oil to one gallon of petrol. He claims the following advantages :- (1) That the Valve Stems, instead of being dry and shiny or rusty, keep bright while having a slight film of oil on them. (2) That the throttle piston and throttle body scarcely ever want cleaning, and also retain a slight oil film on them. I examined these and his statement as to the film of oil was correct. I was further struck by the freedom of the throttle piston in the throttle body even when the guide was removed. There was no tending to jam, even when the throttle piston was at the inner end of its travel; frequently I have found a distinct tendency for the piston to stick when it is nearly 'home', probably owing to the difficulty of cleaning the inner portion of the throttle body. (3) That the air valve scarcely ever wants cleaning and retains a mildly lubricated surface. (4) That for a reason, which he does not profess to be able to explain, the petrol consumption improved after he started using the miracle oil. I told Redstone that I could not give him any information on this matter, as on the only occasion when I had questioned "W" about it - perhaps 18 months ago - they had informed me that they had no experience of it. I should be glad to know whether "W" have perhaps now any information on this point, as the matter would certainly seem to warrant further investigation." KJP. [Signature] | ||
