R.R. 199 (250T) (SD676 19-7-17) MP 18.865 X3687 Extract from By3/P27.8.20. X.3614. RE THREE CABLES RECEIVED FROM AMERICA. NUMBERED 126, 127, &128. (j) Petrol Tank. X.3687. X.3888/9. In regard to the petrol tank, which was the other issue raised in this cable, everybody over here under the impression, from cables and letters received, that America were not attempting to produce the standard tank, but had up their minds to definitely hold out for the modified design containing a gauge, side filler and emergency supply, and By's cable, No.225 was designed to help them out on the understanding that they were determined to have a new design of tank and not to impose a restriction of manufacture. We are only too pleased to fall in with the American suggestions in this cable, that American produce the present standard tank and would like to point out that we recommended this policy in our cable of June 17th. In regard to this item, if required, Derby would be prepared to help out America by despatching completed tank, but it would have to be at the expense of Derby output. We consider, however, that a drop of 5 chassis per week involved by one item would cover Derby were other items on which we are similarly short are despatched. | ||
