To :- 1204 HPS{Horace Percy Smith - Experimental Factory Mgr}/CEP.1/EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}26.11.37 Commencing Saturday mid-day, Nov.27th, a new system of Experimental order numbers is to be introduced. 54000 series order numbers will become redundant, and 52000 series order numbers will take their place. 55000 series order numbers will remain as at present. Alterations of order numbers on work cards, labels, and instructions, for all work in operation, will be undertaken by the Office. In addition to Patterns and Tools, two order numbers will be issued for each product, i.e. one for machining, and a separate one for fitting. On all future fitting up cards it is proposed to insert both fitting and machine order numbers. This will enable the fitter to give the machine section the correct order number in cases where additional machining operations etc. are necessary during initial assembly. We do not intend issuing new lists of order numbers, it must, however be clearly understood, that from Saturday noon, Nov.27th, 54000 series order numbers are definitely cancelled, and all existing lists and records of any description bearing these order numbers must be withdrawn and scrapped.
