As in normal running on the R.R. distributor with tungsten contacts, metal is transferred from one point to the other, it seems probable that sparking is the cause of failure.

This sparking occurs with platinum points, but its effect is not serious. It may be therefore that the cure for the present trouble with the tungsten points lies in the complete elimination of sparking by using the flexible earth connection on the condenser and perhaps employing a slightly larger condenser, at the cost of some efficiency in spark production.
