Huckerby} 7th December 1938. Messrs. Rolls-Royce Ltd., Derby. Dear Sirs: Referring to your letter of the 24th November. We give herewith our Factory report regarding the two instruments mentioned in your letters of the 23rd and 24th November. No.1434. Set out due to blow. Glass chipped and bezel damaged. No.1369. Movement sticky on thermometer side, will not return until tapped. Oil Gauge set out, evidently in transit. As regards No.1434. The writer noticed that the glass was chipped and the bezel damaged, and no doubt the instrument had received a heavy blow which may have had the effect of setting out the tube and thus causing the pointer to stand away from zero. As regards No.1369. No damage can be seen on the outside of the case and the writer is of the opinion that the Oil Gauge pointer was off zero because there was a slight rubbing in the hole of the dial. Referring to thermometer on No.1369. The stickiness mentioned was due to rough meshing between the rack and pinion - this particular trouble is being very carefully dealt with and you can rely on an improvement. Regarding dial moving. We have gone into this matter very carefully and decided to make an alteration so that instead of cont. To avoid delay all envelopes should be addressed to the firm. | ||
