is due to the service system and the ease with which a faulty regulator can be changed.

Liberty.
The main operating coil is across the voltage of the system. There is a non-inductive resistance as is usual across the contact points and also a second operating coil with the resistance across the contacts, having a subtractive effect on the main coil. The system is an 8-volt one. We have made no tests on this particular regulator.

Scott.
We believe some tests were made with a Scott dynamo and regulator sometime ago, but we do not appear to have any record of these. We have a Scott regulator, and the operating coil is a plain series winding and the resistance is a series of carbon blocks with varying pressure in accordance with the varying magnetic effect, together with a fixed non-inductive resistance in parallel. The main coil can easily be rewound for combined shunt and series operation for trial.

Westinghouse.
We have had a Westinghouse dynamo and regulator which was fully reported upon in our EFC {E. Fowler Clarke - Electrical Engineer} 4/T25.10.20 and EFC {E. Fowler Clarke - Electrical Engineer} 1/T 2.2.21. The regulator unit is combined with the cutout unit, the magnetic circuit for the two being duplex. The core is three-legged, the middle leg of which carries the shunt or voltage coil which is common to both the cutout magnetic circuit and the vibrator regulator magnetic circuit. One each of the two remaining legs corresponds to the cutout
