S51/B27912. re Lanchester Gear Box X440

EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}20/T25912.

With reference to the gear box sent to Mr Royce, which was damaged in transit. We took up the matter with the Rly. Co. and have received a letter from them recently advising us they inspected the parts, which they say have sustained slight damage; at the same time they do not anticipate a claim. This seems strange. Perhaps you will communi-cate with Mr Royce or the person who advised you this was damaged, and ask what informa-tion they gave to the Rly. Co's representative who inspected the box at Crowborough. Also advise us when you expect the box will be returned, so that we may arrange for any repairs necessary, or give you instructions to have the box put in order.
