To R.{Sir Henry Royce} E.H. C.S. C.B. C. Ev.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} From EPC. ORIGINAL EFC2/T25.10.31. X. 3485 - CONDENSER. X2572 Referring to our EFC2/T27.9.31, we regret that an unfortunate error was made in the estimation (from the drawing) of the useful volume of the Goshawk condenser. This was given as 1.27 cu.ins. but now turns out to be only .80 cu.in. Again taking the same space efficiency as we obtain on the 40/50 chassis condenser, namely, .244 mf. per cubic inch, the capacity of the Goshawk condenser works out at .19 mf. instead of .31. This being the case, we do not think that the capacity of the condenser will be sufficient for satisfactory running with our standard coil. In the case of the 40/50 condenser you will recall that you have asked us to standardise, after test, a condenser of larger capacity; the necessary instructions for this are now completed. It has involved an increase in the depth of the condenser box. The actual addition to the condenser capacity is approximately 50%, making the average capacity .32 instead of .215. The condenser for the Goshawk should be of at least twice the capacity at present provided. The remainder of the figures given in our report EFC2/T27.9.31 are quite O.K. EPC. We think that the size of the condenser was arranged, in the first instance, by comparison with R R 3827 (100 L) (2) H | ||
