K/S. Pk/KC to..Lp.{Mr Lappin} PRIVATE. Pk/16.9.37. Chassis No.B.117.JY. 4¼-litre. ---------- You will remember on the occasion of your car's last visit to A that on carrying out the necessary modifications to the engine to enable us to fit the latest type oil pump, we found that the big end bearing shells were all loose in the rods and that nos.4 & 5 had to be renewed due to (in the case of one of them) a fracture and the other to distortion. Following out our usual custom in cases of this nature, these bearings were returned to the Chief Engineer, By, for his examination. This morning I have had a long telephone conversation with By, who has now completed his examination of these bearings and in view of what has happened to them, he has asked me to get in touch with you as quickly as possible with a view to getting hold of the chassis, removing the engine from the frame and examining all the main bearings, at the same time carrying out the latest modifications to these main bearings in order to bring the car up to present standard. Although there is nothing wrong with the engine, and it is a 100% job, the main bearings are required by By for examination in order to complete an investigation he is making at the present moment into bearing troubles on the 4¼-litre.
