X.3889. - RE END FILLER FOR PETROL TANK.
40/50 H.P. CHASSIS.

We send you herewith drawing No. LeC.1197, shewing an end filler inclined outwards and backwards. This filler is intended to be especially suitable for the American method of charging by means of a hose, and also filling by can and funnel, as used in England. The present funnel will require a modifications to make it stay in the sloping filler.

Would you kindly instruct a full size wood model or a model in tin, to be made of the filler tube base and flange to enable Mr. Hives to test the convenience of the position shewn by fixing the model on the car tank.

If this test shews that the filler angle could be improved, then the model should be altered, and when passed should be sent to Mr. Royce.

It is desired to keep the neck of the filler as short as possible, provided that it is still above the top of the tank so as to offer the least opportunity for the tank being strained, owing to any force that might be exerted on the filler.

The details of the filler cap are given on the drawing, shewing it to be of the hand operated type. These details may be proceeded with but the body of the filler itself should be left over until the receipt of a scheme giving details of a filler which is to be incorporated. Contd.
