XW 583 To bmr. from E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} c. W. Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} For. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} E.4/Hr.12.7.32. re Bensport. We send you herewith a print of Lec.3146 showing the Bensport engine moved 3" forward in the frame, and the steering box moved 1" back. The latter alteration interfered very little with the slope of the column. Regarding the fan drive, we believe we can get the belt in behind the fan as shown on this drawing. The clearance between the fan and radiator and belt is shown at .375", but we should expect to increase this to .500". We think it would be easier to detach the fan belt if it were further back from the radiator in this way, as there is no difficulty in threading the belt over the fan itself. Furthermore there is less overhang on the crankshaft and rather less mass on the front end. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} Print attached - to R.{Sir Henry Royce} and DR. | ||
