Henning's report from Paris.

Paris,
Sunday August 17, 1924

As requested yesterday, after meeting Mr. G.{Mr Griffiths - Chief Accountant / Mr Gnapp} H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} Baillie at the R.A.C. and receiving papers and instructions from Mrs. Baillie, I drove to my home with 46-PK, to await a wire from Cmmdr. Briggs which I received, instructing me to meet the 9.15 p.m. at Euston for letter authorising me to sign his name to R.A.C. papers. The connection was missed at Crewe, but the letter came by the next train 45 minutes late, at 10.5 p.m. Between this time I drove the car to Berkhampstead and altogether did 119 miles getting home at 11 p.m. Carburation too rich but decided to delay alteration to carburetter until we tried the French Petrol. The car seems lively with a quick pick up to 40 m.p.h.

To-day I arrived at Mr. Baillie's house at 6.25 a.m. and we started at 7.10 for a steady run to Folkstone on wet roads. We left Boulogne at 2.10 p.m. and arrived at R.R. depot Paris, with petrol tank too low that I had nothing to pay at the Porte Mallot having only bought 10 Biden (?) at Boulogne.

The road between Poix and Beauvais is very bad indeed but the car behaved very well, Mr. Baillie driving then. He thought the steering was inclined to throw the wheel about, but on releasing his grip the steering centered even on the rough road at speed.

I will fill petrol tank tomorrow and keep an exact record of Petrol and mileage from then.

We did 237 miles no boiling rough head wind, and speed up to 68. Speedometer is exact.

There is no thermometer on the car.

J.{Mr Johnson W.M.} H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} Henning.
