To EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} to su. from Hg. c. to Hr. X1558 Hsl/LG15.10.21. LUBRICATING OILS FOR FRANCE. X1588 x967 We cannot understand why it should be at all necessary to have a Works Committee to discuss this point. Our Paris Depot tell us that the only oil of standard quality which can be obtained on the Continent is Vacuum. Therefore, we say, use Vacuum by all means. We cannot expect a customer to stop running his car because he cannot obtain the particular oil which we happen to recommend for English use. If our car demands special oil, then the car is wrong. Our reply to Paris would be, that we are quite in agreement to Vacuum oil being used. The grade of vacuum used on the engine should be Vacuum B.B. The gear box and axle, Vacuum gear oil. Castrol XL for the engine. Castrol gear oil for gear box and axle. Our own opinion is that our people in Paris should be sufficiently capable to choose a satisfactory oil suitable for our cars.
