To By, from R.{Sir Henry Royce} C. to F.{Mr Friese} (struck through) C. to EH. C. to BJ. ORIGINAL. St.{Capt. P. R. Strong} Margaret's Day. RECEIVED X.3110 Re -- Single Valve Air Pump. R7/W27817. Regarding the driving wheel this is shown on a serrated shaft, presumably because it has to squeeze up the roller bearing, otherwise one would think it would be better on a cone. If, however, this is a part, the design of which we are not at present altering we need not discuss it further at the moment. Regarding the delivery valve I understand we are not at the moment altering the pattern of this, but if we were doing so, I should recommend making it of the same pattern as the new relief valve. X.3130 With reference to weight of the complete pump this appears to be largely made up of the cylinder and the top union. This, probably could be lightened, and I should be glad if Mr. Elliott will see what can be done to save some weight. With regard to the metal of the cylinder and union, these are so very different in colour that the union looks like copper. It should be made of an alloy having great toughness that can be bought in bars - probably Delta would suit the purpose and be inexpensive. The small spring controlling the valve I think should be made of non-corrosive metal and if possible be so | ||
