2. The following list of 8-cylinder Vee aircraft engines may be helpful, although the engines are now for the most part obsolete - 70/100 H.P. Renault (70° Vee) 220 H.P. Sunbeam (Geared) Arab 110 H.P. R.A.F. 160 H.P. Curtiss 200 and 300 H.P. Hispano 160 H.P. Lorraine Dietrich 190 H.P. Korting. The 50 H.P. Antoinette may be mentioned for its historic interest. Two other early V-8 engines were the Wolseley and the Pipe. With a view to overcoming the T.V. troubles with the Arab, I had the gear ratio altered on six engines from 27:45 to 23:49. Prolonged experience was not obtained with the modified engines but these engines did not develop the T.V. troubles experienced with the engines having standard gears. Two engines fitted with 35:37 ratio gears broke their crankshafts after 13 hours running in each case. The / | ||
