Ranging them in mileage:- 1938 SS{S. Smith} 74,000 - Lagonda 65,000 - Bentley 58,000 1939 Alvis 41,000 - mercury 38,000 - Rover 32,000 1941 Cadillac 23,000 Our american friend owns 2 cars - one mercury & cadillac. His motoring mileage is extraordinary - certainly over the million mark. His knowledge of 1942 (Feb) conclusions is remarkable! He was "in" at Cadillac's experimentation & production of their 45° V-16 (OHV) their short-lived 60° V-12 OHV & their ambitious 135° V-16 (ss{S. Smith} valves) His Packard experience is equally comprehensive. He was present at their development of their short-stroke 8 (to compete with Buick) their well-tried 81x127 "Super" 8 & now their 165 BHP 88.9x117.5 8 cyl. His comments on the annual changes to the Lincoln Zephyr are scathing. Originally 110 BHP - the bore was increased 1/16" then another 1/16" then 1/8" to bring the BHP up to 130. Needless to say, many many internal changes had to be faced! | ||
