To ROY {Sir Henry Royce} /GEA. from Hs {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} /ACL. X4491 Hs {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} /ACJL/LG7.1.28. TANGYE JACK FOR 40/50 HP. CARS. We have now had the opportunity of examining the above sample Jack submitted to us last month. As far as workmanship, rigidity of the jack in the fully extended position, ease of manipulation, and general design are concerned we are very pleased with it. The dimensions, by which we mean total extended height, initial screw adjustment etc. are suitable with one exception viz : the minimum height on this particular sample is 6 3/4", we think the jack is not screwing down to its intended minimum, owing to some cause peculiar to this one sample. Our greatest adverse criticism is the weight which is certainly excessive viz : 15 lbs. 7 ozs. for the jack and 4 lbs. 3 ozs. for the handle, as against our present standard Dunlop jack - 8 lbs. 2 ozs. - handle 2 lbs.10 ozs. Would you please submit our criticisms as above to the makers and ask them if they cannot reduce the weight, remedy the minimum height defect, and send us the result of the alterations. We should be glad to hear further news of the jack for the 20 HP. cars which we returned last month. We are sending the 40/50 HP. jack into the stores for despatch to the makers to your instructions.
