30-G-6 - EXPERIMENTAL CAR USED BY TRANSPORT.
This is the car that has been used on the bus service between Derby and Belper. It was returned to the Experimental Department last week because it could no longer be driven.
It had been run until there was no fabric left on the clutch disc at all. It had then been slipped until the flywheel was cracked and the remainder of the clutch destroyed.
At the present time it is almost impossible to get new flywheels made for experimental engines and the labour involved in fitting a new flywheel is considerable.
Had the car been returned to us when the trouble started, a new clutch plate could have been fitted in a few hours.
We cannot loan Experimental Cars to the Transport Department if this sort of negligence recurs.
