Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} FROM R.{Sir Henry Royce} C. St.{Capt. P. R. Strong} Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} X7520 RS{Sir Henry Royce's Secretary}/14.12.29. SHOCK DAMPERS X.7520 X.5520. Mr. Hardy is working on two or three schemes for giving a short stroke with no damping, having the longer strokes with the usual damping, bearing in mind that we shall probably be able to introduce later a controllable system, either automatic or by hand. It will be remembered that I particularly pointed out that as far as I could judge we required a quick stroke to have the same damping (as nearly as possible) as a slow stroke, but a long stroke to have more damping than a short stroke, and that there should be little or no damping for a short distance from the point of rest. We might add to this that although the speed of the vibrations should not increase the damping, it would be desirable to have greater damping the faster the car travels. I thinkwe have for a long time all agreed to this latter. R.{Sir Henry Royce} | ||
