To Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} From G.W.H. Hotel de France, Chateauroux, FRANCE. 19-HA. We have received your telegram - NORTHEY WANTS CAR IN PARIS FRIDAY MORNING ROBERTS TO GO WITH PN{Mr Northey} STOP CONFIRM SPEED RESULTS ON MONTLHERY AND INVESTIGATE AXLE LEAK AT PARIS ANY SURPLUS MEN SHOULD RETURN AND TAKE HOLIDAY. HIVES. We are acting upon this and after trials are carried out with slipper load variations, examination etc, Messrs Brazier, Royce, Thornhill and Tunaley, will leave here on Monday morning by the 1.30 am train, for Derby. Roberts, Pattinson and myself will proceed to Paris, Monday if possible. We shall have to enquire if the track is available, also if the Depot is not busy we shall tackle the axle first, as results then could be obtained whether the leak has been cured. RE. PETROL CONSUMPTION. We have not attempted to sacrifice petrol consumptions by keeping the 90° needle in use. It gave what was considered good all round results. The 95° is definitely weak at high speed, we have therefore not used it after once trying. The 85° was put in to see whether better results could be obtained at maximum speed, and slightly better results were obtained at the higher speeds, but we could not appreciate any better results in the acceleration tests. The petrol consumption with the 85° needle does not show any appreciable increase, the daily average consumption with the 85° needle being 9.01, 9.08, 9.46 as against 9.08, 9.16, 9.33. We have been running the last three days with the 85° needle fitted to see what difference in consumption is obtained. The only troubles we have had with the carburetter is the one reported, i.e, float chamber needle not seating, and we get that luffing up occasionally after heavy braking upon acceleration. We have not had our previous trouble of weakness. G.W.H. | ||
