II NOTE. I was driving the Experimental Dept. Essex Terraplane down Litchurch Lane in the direction of London Road; no vehicles in sight at the time. On turning round the first left hand bend I noticed a car just starting off in the same direction as I was going. This car shot across into the middle of the road. I was not going fast enough to overtake it before it was well over the middle of the road, therefore I had to brake and pull in behind him, in doing so the car skidded round to the right causing the nose of the car to point at about 50° with the wall on the left hand side or near side of the road. I swung the wheel over to the right to steer into the skid; but the near side front wheel struck the curb retarding the correction of the skid, hence the car went on in the direction shown in Sketch hitting the near side front of the car a glancing blow on the wall. The car continued slowly on and I brought it to rest on the near side of the road. I drove car back to the Works under its own power. (I failed to get the Registeration No. of the other Car which kept going.) | ||
