Experiment measuring pivot movement on a Hispano Suiza car with front brakes applied.

HISPANO CAR. We pulled the Hispano Suiza car forward (as in the diagram) with the front wheel brakes full on. The movement of the pivot at the top and bottom, as each 2 cwts. of load was applied, was measured by means of clock gauges attached to the frame. The co-efficient of friction on the dry concrete on which we carried out the experiment was about .69 - the wheels were therefore just on the point of skidding under a load of 14 cwts.
